Abstract

Introduction: Knowledge is one of the most valuable organizational resources of an institution, and that´s why the auditing and management of its processes is so necessary.  Knowledge audits started in 1994 in order to identify development spaces and to be the starting point of Knowledge Management programs.

Objective: The aim of this study was to analyze and identify knowledge used systematically in two departments oriented towards library and information services and to identify strengths that can sustain future actions.

Methods: A methodology for analyzing existing knowledge, identifying principal processes and professional development actions which will allow the development of new knowledge that will be used in the future was applied.

Results: The results obtained in both departments show the domain of the personnel for facing actual challenges as well as aspects that should be faced. The audit shows important results concerning the professional development actions with less results in the regular knowledge actualizations and in the exchanges that take place with other partners.  Another situation that should be faced is related to the links and exchanges that should occur at the National Library with other members of their system.

The results related to the professional development of specialists and technicians are not good and this could be a risk for the future knowledge that could face the evolution of these Departments due to a poor actualization and weak exchange carried out.
