Evidence-Based Nursing: Knowledge and Attitudes of Nurses in Critical Hospital Areas
Keywords:
Evidence-based nursing, knowledge, attitudeAbstract
Introduction: Evidence-based nursing was born as a strategy to integrate knowledge and practice, and to enable the conscious use of the best scientific evidence for individualized patient care.
Objective: To establish the relationship between knowledge and attitudes toward evidence-based nursing in hospital critical unit nurses.
Methods: Quantitative, correlational, cross-sectional, cross-sectional study with 116 nurses working in the Emergency Department and Adult Intensive Care Unit of a Social Security hospital in Callao, Peru. A questionnaire for knowledge and a Likert test for attitudes were applied, both of which were self-administered, validated by 8 expert judges from Mexico, Colombia, Chile, and Peru, and subjected to a pilot test. The data obtained were processed in IBM SPSS 26.0 software and Spearman's Rho test was applied to test the hypothesis.
Results: 38.8% presented a good level of knowledge and favorable attitude towards EBE, 51.7% have a good level of knowledge in the implementation dimension of EBE and 75.9% have a favorable attitude in the affective dimension.
Conclusions: There is a statistically significant relationship between the level of knowledge and attitudes of critical unit nurses towards the practice of EBE, and this is positive, i.e., the higher the level of knowledge, the more favorable attitudes towards the practice of EBE.
