Abstract

Introduction: Organ transplant is a medical procedure in which an organ is removed from a living or dead body and replaced in the patient who has damaged or missing organs.

Objectives: To describe and compare the number of publications and citations in transplants among world regions in the 1996-2020 period. The free access databases Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed and Dimensions were used with access in February 2022. The variables evaluated correspond to the number of citations, publications, H and SJR indices. The multivariate variance technique (MANOVA) was used with canonical orthogonal contrast.

Results: It can be seen that the United States, Germany, England, Japan and Italy lead publications worldwide in the referred area, both in the number of documents published and in the number of citations made. The journal with the greatest impact in the area corresponds to the Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation from the United States. When carrying out the network analysis, it was found that medical researchers from countries such as Italy, the United States, Germany, Canada, Japan, France and Australia have the highest number of citations.

Conclusions: Although the demand for organ transplants grows every day, the number of available donors is not enough; That is, the number of patients on the waiting list continually grows in contrast to the number of transplants performed at the orbital level.
